![]() You absolutely could have a far more evil main character than the game permits, though. I'd also consider the Abyss in its totality a counterargument not just to the idea that it's any kind of analogue to an afterlife (although again it appears that way at first) but to the idea that you've been being given a choice between short and long term gains throughout. There is deliberate narrative and presentational bias here. This seems an unimportant distinction given that the PC is initially presented as a faceless and nameless figure who clearly only exists to provide the player an avatar given the context that the storyline ends up providing, I disagree with that. That said, it's worth noting that the choices and consequences aren't being just presented to the player, but to the player character. Also, I think we disagree at a deep enough level that it's not worth too much effort figuring out exactly where. And I deleted my first two attempts to reply due to either spoilers (since it isn't clear whether you've played through either the main or Abyss storylines) or too much dancing around spoilers. Most of the reasons I'm personally more attracted to this storyline than most of the villain protagonist stuff I've played or read probably wouldn't matter to you, so I'll try to skip over that. ![]() This is as far as my current playthrough has taken me so I will end the whining here, just suffice to say I think this could have been a lot more evil than it actually ended up being. This doesn't send a great message, and I'd even be more ok with leaving it in if there was an option of asking them nicely to leave so we could all end it our own way. ![]() My follow up issues is that I'd love the option of leaving those men to their fate, it's an eternity of suffering for them, seems legit evil to me, at least, I get a kick out of the idea.Īnd then there's that pesky feminism issue that thirteen year old boys will hate me for bringing up. The first is that damn lawn mowing is the most evil thing in this particular abyss and it was inflicted on everyone trying to get passed it. If you got past that lawn, what comes next is "subduing the women" and taking them back to Heaven's Peak. In some cases it's not even evil, and I'm going to use Heaven's Peak Abyss as Exhibit A, I am sure we are all familiar with having to google how to mow that respawning lawn so the abyss in question should come to mind very soon, in case you were scratching your head as to which one it was. Killing someone is arguably a mercy when what is in store is slave labour, I think the Evil Vs More Evil choices are the wrong way around here. Albeit this one is targeted at a much younger audience. ![]() It's a fun old game and it still holds up today and I (admittedly) do have fond memories of hours spent playing it on consoles.Įvil vs More Evil is really just a choice here about long term gains over short term gains, in that order.Ī way of saying "yes, you can be edgy and cool and kill everyone, but there's less reward for it in the end", and I'm sure I'm not the only one who has seen the outrage over Mass Effect's same simplistic game design. This game and its idea of evil truly dissapoints me. Let's find out just how dead and dusty these forums are!īefore I go ahead and spend an hour crafting the perfect post so anyone who does come along doesn't bother to read it and simply comments "no", I'm diving right in.
